Sky HD

Sky HD is great if you want to get the most out of your HDTV, with the largest selection of HD channels. However this comes at a hefty subscription price so if you are not into sport or documentaries there is little the service offers over Freeview HD or Freesat HD.

The most obvious reason to spend the extra money is for sport, however this is not included in the base package. If you do pay the extra for Sky Sport channels, that brings the monthly cost to £50, Ouch! That’s £600 a year, more expensive than most HDTV’s with Freeview HD built in. This said, the sport programming is matched by no other service, if you want a premium choice of high definition sports channels this is it.

There are some other advantages other than the programming Sky offers. The box is free and comes with the ability to record television. The ability to record is not unique to Sky, there are plenty of freeview HD boxes with the exact same functionality ie. the ability to pause live television, record shows etc. (called freeview HD plus)

For a list visit http://www.freeview.co.uk/Freeview-Plus/Freeview-Plus-Products/Freeview-HD. All of these boxes cost less than 6 months subscription to SkyHD, it is not recommended to get SkyHD purely for the ability to record.
