BBC HD

BBC HD is actually a trial service, scheduled to last till summer 2007 and for now it is only showing a few hours of HD programming each day. As the BBC is a public broadcaster and we pay for their content already via the licence fee there is no additional cost involved in receiving BBC HD content, you just need an HD receiver. The BBC have been preparing for the future by filming many of their programmes in high definition but the problem is they do not currently have enough bandwidth to be able to broadcast the data heavy HD signal on Freeview (the PBS digital service). Otherwise you can watch BBC HD content on both V+ and Sky HD.

To receive BBC HD broadcasting you need the following:

  • an HD set-top box
  • an HD ready TV (if this has an HD tuner installed you will not need another set-top box)

You can see here exactly what HD programmes are available on BBC HD
